Some context. In that month: a Provisional Irish Republican Army bomb in Omagh, County Tyrone killed five British Army soldiers. U.S. President Nixon confessed his role in the Watergate cover-up. Ajax won the European Cup in 1973, defeating Juventus 1-0 in the final held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Chicago Cubs managerr Whitey Lockman was ejected during the game and replaced by Ernie Banks who, by doing so, technically became baseball’s 1st African American manager.

On a Personal Note
This was the first issue of my S&T subscription. CA was my first ever proper wargame. It was my first exposure to the concept that history and games could be fused together, and it was a combination I found exhilarating and addictive.
I’ve always had a particular interest in the battle of Gettysburg and I suspect that Al Nofi’s article in S&T 38 was at least partly responsible for this.
